United Salvage & Towage (Phils.) Inc. (USTPI or Unisalv) was established in 1974 to salvage scrap vessels from World War II wreck in and around the islands and was also involved in various salvaging activities. In 1975, it expanded its fleet by acquiring MT Philippine Sea. At this time, the company has already recorded 31 salvage works not to mention the tug assistance, removal of wrecks at the Pier and other small salvage works completed from the start of its operation. In 1991, the Company acquired a supply anchor handling tug MT Sulu Venture, intended to provide service for the oil drilling industry both in the local and international market.
Since its purchase, MT Sulu Venture has been working on a spot charter in the ASEAN region. MT Sulu Venture had been assigned to one major exploration Company here in the Philippines on a long-term charter. Focused to make its niche in the promising oil drilling industry, Unisalv marked another year when its sister company purchased MT China Venture in 1998 and managed it for about 17 years, operating within the Far East region. The Company has also managed and maintained a Search and Rescue boat in Busuanga, Palawan Philippines for about 12 years.
